Sentiment in the stock market

Introduction

Welcome.

Moody Field is a picture of stock market sentiment at a point in time. The picture illustrates a field, like a sports field, with markings numbered from 0 to 100. Groups of stocks, represented with icons, are located on the field according to the percentage of rising stocks in each group.

For example, the Dow Jones Industrials DJI tag contains 30 stocks. The DJI position on the field shows how many of those stocks are presently rising. A stock's recent price history defines whether it is rising or not.

Rising is defined as either making a new high (some tags) or trading above a moving average (other tags). When the stock then makes a new low, or trades below the specified moving average, it becomes non-rising in the calculations.

Icon positions summarize the stock market condition for each group. Rocket tails highlight groups with large changes that day. A user can define new groups, and vary parameters such as time or price increment sizes in their definitions of rising.

Moody Field illustrates mathematically determined situations, according to model settings. The user then interprets what the situation means. The field includes icons for medians and recent directions, which we find useful at the monthly trading scale.
